Well, one of them, anyway.
Back story: When I was a wee child, my sister and I stayed with our grandparents when school was closed for snow. On those days, Big Sis (who was super cool, even at 10 years old) always had a Beatles movie to entertain us until Mom picked us up after work. I think I had Help! memorized before I could fully tie my shoes.
Fast forward 20 years. I'm fresh off my first (and only) year as a teacher, and in a very bad place personally. I won't go into details here, but I will say that the few words that always got me through the difficult stuff were simply, "Let it be." I genuinely have no idea how I could have gotten through that time without that song, and its lyrics have become my personal motto. I even had those three simple words tattooed on my skin as a constant reminder that there will be an answer.
Big Sis found out in April that Sir Paul himself would be performing in Nashville, a short five-ish hours from where we live. Our mom's birthday is in May, so we decided that Macca tickets would make a fine birthday present indeed.
After accidentally blocking my entire campus from Ticketmaster for a few hours, Big Sis procured four tickets, and we were tasked with keeping the secret until Mom's birthday.
Yes, it says June 25. Paul fell ill in June, which forced him to reschedule some shows, including ours. He definitely made it worth the wait, though.
I've literally waited my entire life for this show, and now that I've seen it, I don't think anything will top it. He played EVERYTHING. Seriously. Everything.
Highlights include, but certainly are not limited to:
Magical Mystery Tour
All My Loving
Paperback Writer--played on the guitar he used to record it.
Another Day
Eleanor Rigby--my first Favorite Beatles Song
Let It Be--yes, I cried. A lot.
Live and Let Die--WITH FIREWORKS AND EXPLOSIONS. 007 would have been proud.
Hey Jude
Yesterday
Helter Skelter--or, as I shouted when he started it, "HELTER MOTHERF****** SKELTER!!!"
Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End
I seriously can't describe how good this show was. If I live 100 more years, I don't think I'll ever see anything to top it. Unless I see him again.
